Frequently Asked Questions:

What is Manual Osteopathic Therapy?

Manual Osteopathic Therapy is a gentle, hands-on treatment that addresses the underlying cause of the imbalance or dysfunction your body is experiencing. Carrie commonly tells her clients, “Flow is health; movement is health”. Blood and lymph need to flow. Nerve impulses need to travel. Organs need to slide and glide. Muscles need to move. All of these systems need to work together for health and healing. A Manual Osteopathic Therapist helps your body find its balance so that everything can flow and move and heal. If one part of the body is restricted, the rest of the body compensates. This can eventually lead to pain, injury, and disease.

Is Manual Osteopathic Therapy the same as Osteopaths and Doctors of Osteopathy?

Yes and no. Some titles are trademarked based on specific schools and parts of the world. Osteopaths have a trademarked name. Doctors of Osteopathy are medical doctors trained in the USA who also have some training in osteopathy.

All of these titles have training based on traditional osteopathic principles. They all have similar training and use most of the same textbooks.

Just like there is a wide range of hands-on styles between different chiropractors or different massage therapists, all Manual Osteopathic Therapists practice a little bit differently. It’s important to find one whos treatments resonate with you and the needs of your body.

Is Manual Osteopathic Therapy covered by insurance companies?

Manual Osteopathic Therapy is currently covered by most insurance companies. Carrie is registered with CMMOTA, so you can call your benefit company and ask them directly. If they don’t, Carrie can perform craniosacral therapy and visceral manipulation under your massage benefits.

Do you direct bill?

Since 95% of insurance companies do not have Manual Osteopathic Therapy set up for direct billing, Carrie has chosen not to offer direct billing at this time.

What does Manual Osteopathic Therapy help with?

MOT can help your body heal and be in its best health by restoring balance within your tissues. This means it can be helpful for all ages and walks of life. From the office worker with a sore neck and shoulders to an athlete with a new or chronic injury to a mother with pelvic issues to a newborn with colic to a child with ADHD.

Other common conditions that are helped in the office are migraines, digestive issues, respiratory issues, jaw pain, chronic pain, neuropathy, chronic pain in various body parts like hips, shoulders, ankles, and spine.

Why should I try Manual Osteopathic Therapy?

Manual Osteopathic Therapy is a gentle, non-invasive, drug-free option for many conditions. Because its goal is to get to the root of the dysfunction or imbalance, it is very successful when used in conjunction with other treatments as well as an alternative to other treatments.

Is Osteopathy the same as Physiotherapy or Chiropractic?

All three of these disciplines can be used independently or together and are all a little bit different. Osteopathy treats the body as a unit with the understanding that the pain and the dysfunction might not be in the same place and works to integrate the treatments for full body balance.
